Stephen Burnie is a Toronto photographer working in both film and digital media. His chosen subjects include nature, travel and architecture but he specializes in urban abstract photography, presenting the familiar city in unfamiliar ways.  In all his abstract work, the photographer attempts to distill the ordinary world by selectively emphasizing basic elements such as colour, texture, lines and shape to reveal a beauty that is often overlooked.  Styles range from hard-edged geometry to softer impressionism.

Stephen has created photographs for over 30 years and is largely self-taught.  For several years, he has studied Miksang contemplative photography - a discipline bringing together traditional Buddhist dharma art teachings and modern photographic techniques.  The result is synchronization of eye and mind to see and produce striking images of simple and powerful composition.
